Festive Friday Challenge #3 - Snowflake

Edited to add:  So excited that my snowflake card below received a shout out among all of the incredible cards posted.  Thanks Festive Friday Team!  :)Jill

Today I took a few minutes to make a card for the Festive Friday challenge.  The inspiration this week is an element challenge: incorporate a snowflake into your design.  Here is the graphic:

The Christmas season is one of my favorites to create for.  You can tell how much I like it by the tons of pins on my Christmas board on Pinterest:  HERE

Today's card was inspired by several different pins on my board so I can't take credit for the design.  I tried to link to a couple of specific pins on individual websites but was having problems finding the original cards - bummer....

The kraft, red, and cream color combo is a favorite of mine for Christmas cards and I use it a LOT!!!  I love the old-fashioned vintage look that can be achieved especially when you distress edges with some kraft ink too!
I used some vintage thread in my Janome Sew Mini today and did not have good luck with it.  It kept breaking and after re-threading several times I opted to just zig-zag a bunch of holes around my card to add to the home-spun feel that I like so much.  The sentiment is from "White Christmas" a stamp set from My Craft Spot.

A close-up of the snowflakes!  The large one is from WPlus9 and the small one from MFT.   I also impressed my kraft layer with a snowflake impression plate from Papertrey Ink.

Thanks for looking at my card.  There is some truly incredible inspiration from the Festive Friday team on their blog: HERE
And a lot of wonderful projects have already been uploaded to the linky tool!  I am off to take a look!
I hope you join in too!  The deadline is tomorrow - March 13th 2013.

Hugs,
Jill

We are so THANKFUL for your hospitality....

Edited to add:  So honored that this card was chosen as one of the three Top Mouse picks for the November 17, 2012 Blog Hop!  Thanks Waltzing Mouse Stamps!

Hi everyone,
My second post for today is a card for the November 2012 Waltzing Mouse Stamps Blog Party!  The theme this month is:  GRATEFUL.  And here is the card that I came up with:

I started by embossing a rustic cream cardstock base with a Cheery Lynn Designs Embossing plate called "Old Parchment".  It is one of my favorites!  I selectively inked the beautiful tree from the set "Blessed by You" to fit it within the opening of the largest Opera Tag which I die cut from some terracotta tile cardstock.  I then added the small stamp from "Seasons of Love to create a border at the top of the opening and to frame the partial sentiment "Thankful for your".
The full sentiment is:  We are Thankful for your hospitality and draws your eye through the card from the upper left to the lower right.
Some button twine, some border stamping on the bottom of the card, and a wee border of glitter glue around the opera tag opening finishes off this card which I am giving to my parents who are hosting Thanksgiving at their house this year.  I am still working on the place cards but hope to share them on the blog if I have time before the big day.

Thanks for looking at my card!  Happy Hopping!
So much beautiful inspiration over at Waltzing Mouse today!
Love it!
:) Jill

August 2012 Blog Hop - Papertrey Ink

Last night I made a card for the August 2012 Blog Hop over at Nichole Heady's Blog for Papertrey Ink.  You can see the blog hop post and everyone's incredible projects: HERE

I love all these textiles! Autumn is such a beautiful season and I am always ready for the cooler temperatures and the sweaters, scarfs, tweeds and woolens that come with it. I decided to go with a fairly clean and simple card this time especially when my order arrived from Papertrey this afternoon with my new herringbone background set and impression plate to play with.

Here is my card:
First I used the new herringbone impression plate to emboss my smokey shadow cardstock.

Then I used rustic cream cardstock and smokey shadow ink to create my herringbone panel after creating a 1.75 inch circle mask and having it hang partway off of the piece I was background stamping.

I then added a strip of houndstooth patterned paper cut with the pinking die and inked with some wild honey distress ink to darken it to this lovely color.

Next I created a frame for the masked circle with a limiltess layer 1.75 inch circle die out of smokey shadow cardstock and stamped my sentiment which is from the "We Go Together" stamp set.
To embellish the card I picked 3 buttons from my stash to pick up on the grey and gold tones of the card and create some visual triangles as well as try to follow the rules of three.

I love the sentiment on this card as I could use it for a variety of things....I left the inside blank - see picture below....but could even add a birthday sentiment and give it to my brother for his upcoming day...I love the masculine feel of this card!

Thanks for taking a look at my card!  I would love to know what you think of it!  I cannot wait to hop around and see what everyone creates today!  Happy crafting and hopping!
