Make it Monday #37 - Layered Mats and Frames

It is Friday night and I had an hour of free time so I thought I would make a card for this week's challenge over at Papertrey Ink.  Dawn McVey made a great video about using die cut frames on your cards.  You can see it on Nichole Heady's blog:  here

As I began playing with some black paper frames I "saw" a cat hidden in the frame and I made this card.  (I apologize for the picture quality but it is dark in my basement at night and I did correct the photo as much as I could but it is still not great....)

The cat's ears are made out of black felt and sweet blush cardstock from PTI.  The tail is also felt.  Here are some of the steps I took to come up with my little black kitty cat:

I started by making a frame using the Mat Stack 1 dies.  I cut the largest die out of black cardstock and then used one of the smaller mat stack 1 dies to make it into a frame.  Here is a picture:
I stamped the cat's paws or "claws" using the skeleton ribs in the Halloween Treats and Sweets stamp set.  I later added some diamond stickles for the nails on the paws.

Next I used the piece of mat stack 1 left over from making the frame or "body of the cat" for creating the head of my kitty.  Again the stamp used (for the kitty face) is from Halloween Treats and Sweets.  I used a 1 3/4" limitless layer open scallop die to make the cat's collar.  I smudged the ink (colorbox frost white) with my finger on both the face and the paws to make them look softer since cats are furry.  I wish I had some googly eyes but I could not find any in my supplies tonight.

Last but not least I added a tiny tag with a 10/31 date stamp from Spooky Sweets II for the cat's I.D. tag.  I also added a little rusty bell because all kitty's should announce their presence to unsuspecting birdies in the area - right?

So there you have it - my little halloween kitty cat card all ready to be given to someone special this Halloween!  And I even managed to enter a challenge at Papertrey Ink too!  Hope you enjoyed looking at my little card.  Isn't the kitty's glitter nose cute?  I hope you are enjoying all the gifts that Autumn has to offer us - each day is a blessing of colored leaves, pumpkins, whistling wind and the smells of comfort food in our kitchens!  Enjoy!

  1. Very creative card. Isn't it a great feeling when you "see" something different a die has to offer? Great take on the MIM challenge.
